Over 40 schools entered in the Latin competition on Feb. 8, and 750 students attended the event. The competition was held at Austin College in Sherman and, among those attending, freshman Eric Cyganowski and his fellow Latin Club members contended for state.

“We meet once a month to study and practiced our Latin skills,” Eric Cyganowski said, “but most of time we study at home and learn in class.”

Cyganowski placed first in Academic Decathlon, fourth in Mythology, fifth in 3D Art, and accompanied by freshman Kasie Haemker, placed third in Couples’ Costume. Cyganowski entered the contest as Endymion alongside Haemker as Selene. Cyganowski will advance to the state competition in Austin on April 11-13.

“This is my first year in Latin Club,” Eric Cyganowski said. “I can’t wait for future years to come.”
