A shutdown defense and high-powered offense helped the Broncos entertain the fans all season, but their only goal was to remain a family. Regardless of the playoff loss, the Broncos continue to focus more on what the future has to offer.

“We put on a great show for the fans,” senior Everett Williams said. “I wish we could have made our run a little longer.”

With a winning record of 10-3, the 2013 football team paved the way for future players this season. In the eyes of the players, ranking 86 out of 1,721 schools in the state of Texas stands as one of the many great accomplishments in the school’s history. Along with the record setting season, the Broncos set the rushing record at the school: 381.7 yards.

“Having such a great team [this season] makes us have to live up to this next year,” Coach Melson said.

Offense scored 517 total points this season. Senior and quarterback Terrence Ivery, along with running back senior Kijana Amous, helped the offense with 5,712 total yards. Terrance Ivery, known as a dual threat by his team for his ability to both run and pass when needed, had 1,047 yards in the air and 1,296 yards on the ground. Amous rushed for 1,821 yards and scored 27 touchdowns. By himself, Amous got 162 total points throughout the season. Senior Kenton Mayberry also added 1,072 yards running with 14 touchdowns.

“Our season was such a success,” Amous said. “I am thrilled for the next step [college] even though it didn’t end the way we wanted.”

Along with other defensive players, senior Everett Williams withheld opposing teams to only score 392 points for the entire season. For the year, a total of 744 total tackles were achieved along with 31 total sacks, 10 interceptions and 10 fumble recoveries. The defensive players for the Broncos held up against other top teams, including those placing in state championships.

“I am thankful for all of my players and coaches,” Coach Chris Melson said. “I am glad I had the opportunity to get to know every one of them.”

My name is Austin Escalante, I am now a senior at Legacy High school. I am 17 years old. I was born and raised in Arizona, and this is the first time I have ever lived outside Arizona. I went to Verrado High School and was planing on never leaving Arizona unless I got my dream job. I've known all my friends for at least 3 years, some even more. My dad took a job here, and I was forced to move, leaving my girlfriend and other friends, and I had to quit my job. It seemed like nothing could get worse. It was over 1,000-mile drive that took us two days, 12 hours the first day and nine hours the second one. [email protected]
