
The spikes smack on the charcoal black track, the sweat dripping from the hair of the runners and the finish line in the near distance. The Bronco cross country team competed in their first meet of the season Aug. 16.
“This year, we are definitely bringing a lot more intensity,” sophomore Riley McCain said. “Even if it is an easy day, we are warming up with passion.”

“It’s pretty frustrating that we didn’t get first place,” McCain said. “However, we are going to come stronger, faster and overall better.”
This year, the practices will intensify, going up in mileage, running around 20 more miles every week than they did last year.
“We are definitely taking practices more serious this year,” junior Ava Duncan said.
For a lot of cross country runners, going to state remains a main goal, and for the Legacy runners this stays on their minds.
“We are keeping an eye on these other schools that keep winning,” McCain said. “If they can do it, then we can too and we can beat them at state.”
Cross Country is a sport where you are part of a team, but you often run on your own. This feeds into personal determination for the runners.
“Obviously, I want the whole team to succeed, but I also want my own personal success,” McCain said. “I want my individual title.”
