Cowbells ringing and pads clanking as junior J-Uan Harrison Jr. splits the gap and rushes to the endzone. Harrison Jr. looks forward to his final high school season, after earning a spot on varsity since his sophomore year.
“It just comes naturally to me,” Harrison Jr. said. “I’m gonna keep going out there locked in and keep doing what I’m doing.”
Varsity Football Assistant Coach Derek Brewer came to Legacy in 2023, Harrison Jr.’s freshman year, after coaching at Cleburne.
“He leads by example. He is going to do everything right and not blame a single person whether he mak es a mistake or someone else does,” Coach Brewer said. “He owns his mistakes and visualizes what he can do better in the next play or series.”
Harrison Jr’s positive effect was felt beyond just the scoreboard. His ability to keep the offense on the field gave defensive players longer resting periods before they went back out there.
“I loved JJ being our starter this year,” senior Carson Cox said. “ [The defense] would come off the field dead tired, but we knew that he would keep the drive alive long enough for us to catch our breath and get some water in us.”
While Harrison Jr. showed off his skill every game, he also worked as hard as possible every practice to show the other players the work ethic needed to succeed.
“Every time coach yelled at us or made us do conditioning because of mistakes we made the week before, JJ always had the right attitude,” junior Jake Jenkins said. “He never complained or talked back to coach, and he always set a good example and kept all the guys in check.”
Harrison Jr. ranks among the top 60 Running Backs in the state of Texas when it comes to rushing yards, where he ran for 1370 yards with 15 total touchdowns.
“I love scoring,” Harrison Jr. said. “I love playing running back because I get the ball a lot, and I can show off my skills every play.”
