The Broncos came into Friday’s game against Timberview needing a win to guarantee them a spot in the playoffs and to earn the title as district champions. Legacy started off with the ball at their 27 yard line. On the second play from scrimmage, running back Cameron Davis fumbled and gave it to the Wolves on the 34 yard line. Legacy’s defense bailed the offense out forcing the Wolves to a 4th and 5 at the 17, which they failed to convert.
The offense took the turnover and on a designed QB Keeper , Quarterback Kennedy Jones rushed for an 83 yard touchdown. The score gave Legacy a 7-0 lead with 8:09 left in the first quarter. Legacy’s defense continued to force Timberview to punt, but the bronco offense would lose fumbles on their next two drives. The Wolves took advantage of the third, and with a 2-yard touchdown run by Terence Davis. The Wolves tied the game up 7-7 late in the first quarter.
Both teams experienced unsuccessful offensive drives through the second quarter. In an attempt to catch the Legacy special teams off, Timberview tried a fake punt run, which was sniffed out by the broncos and stopped. The turnover gave Legacy the ball at the Timberview 26. On third down, wide receiver Josh Doctson made up for a fumble he had earlier by hauling in a 1 handed catch, giving the broncos a first down at the 6 yard line. A goal line stand by the Wolves would force the Broncos to have to settle for a field goal making the score 10-7 with 6:33 left in the second quarter.
Timberview would respond with a touchdown. Starting from their 42, the Wolves drove the ball the ball all the way to the Legacy 1-yard line. On fourth and goal, Terrence Davis pounded himself into the end zone, giving the Wolves the lead 14-10 into half time.
The Wolves’ next drive would go all the way to Legacy’s 1 yard line. Davis tried to pound it in again, but was stripped of the ball on the play. The ball was recovered by middle linebacker Gerald Richardson in the end zone, resulting in a touchback and gave the bronco offense the ball at the 20. Legacy would punt on their next drive, forcing the Wolves to start from deep in their own territory. On the Wolves’ next possession, outside linebacker Kendall Washington would force a fumble on Davis, which was recovered by Richardson and returned for a touchdown.
Trailing 17-14, Wolves punt returner, Christian Spears returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown. The touchdown gave the Wolves the lead 21-17 in the fourth quarter. Legacy would start a comeback when running back, Cameron Davis would run it 51 yards, setting up first and goal from the 7 yard line. The drive was finished when Jones would run it in for a touchdown from the 4 yard line. Legacy lead the game 24-21 late in the fourth, and a late touchdown run by Cameron Davis would ice the game with the final score 31-21.
With the win, Legacy’s district record is 5-3, earning them a trip to the playoffs. The Broncos’ next game is against Fort Worth Eastern Hills on Nov. 13.
