With 11 returning senior baseball players and nine returning seniors for softball, both teams are coming up on their first scrimmage. Softball plays Jan. 29 against the Saginaw Rough Riders at home at 7:30 p.m.
Baseball players do not have their first scrimmage until Feb. 5 against North Crowley, which will be held at North Crowley at 4.
“I have a feeling we will do really well and hopefully make it to state this year,” senior Dejanira Daugherty said. “We have been aiming for state for the past three years and we feel like it’s our time this year.”
Last year the baseball team went to the first round of the playoffs, but unfortunately was knocked out by the L.D. Bell Blue Raiders. The softball team went two rounds deep but were stopped by the Plano Wildcats.
“Getting eliminated in the first round last year hurt very bad,” senior Dane Rombach said. “This year we have a solid defense and pretty good line-up.”
Although last year didn’t end the way both teams intended, they both plan to go several rounds farther this time around.
“We are so ready to go out and show all of Mansfield how good we really are,” Rombach said.
