A.R.I.S.E Program to Collect School Supplies for Tanzania

A.R.I.S.E Program to Collect School Supplies for Tanzania

In an effort to allow students the opportunity to participate in a charity, Principal Des Stewart has brought the A.R.I.S.E. Movement, a global outreach program, to Legacy. Standing for Achieve, Reach, Inspire, Stand-Out and Empower, the movement hopes to inspire, encourage, empower and nurture children by providing materials needed to help them be successful in school.

“It is a movement that can really bring change to our world,” Mr. Stewart said, “If we can get a lot of people involved in this movement we can impact the lives of the children in such a powerful, inspiring, and uplifting way.”

Starting on Mar. 1, students will have the opportunity to donate school supplies in the cafeteria before the morning bell rings on Mon., Wed. and Fri. Students may also bring their donations to the participating teachers; Amberly Walker, Dena Schimming, Kathleen Conyers, Ashley Brown, Stephanie Shackleford, and John Sudbury during school.

“I want to give the children the opportunity to be successful in life by giving them the essential necessities they need,” Mr. Stewart said, “We can help others arise by donating school supplies to children.”

Mrs. Walker decided to take part in the organization because one of her students, junior Mikaylan Thomas, asked her for help with the program.

“Mikaylan is one of those people that is so inspiring,” Mrs. Walker said, “She’s extremely caring and is involved in so many things that are all about helping other people.”

Each of the participating teachers have a list of what donations to bring. The school supplies are being donated to children in Tanzania, Africa. Also, students can earn community service hours for every school supply they bring.

“It’s important for everyone who has the ability to try to get involved in something that reaches out to others,” Mrs. Walker said, “It can even be overwhelming to think about all the needs, but I truly feel that if each person, did a little something for someone else, then we could really make a difference.”

Oh, I'm a senior (if any of you guys even care...). I’ve been staring at this computer trying to figure out what to say, and I honestly cannot think of anything. I'm sorry I got your hopes up.
