Student Council Elections

Sophomore Natalie Vontress won the junior class presidency in the previous elections.

The tie in elections for next year’s junior class president was all sophomore Natalie Vontress needed to decide to push harder for votes. On the day of elections, May 14, Vontress, along with other students running for student council positions in their next year’s class, created and posted stickers, posters and slogans around the school to gather votes.

“I felt qualified to do it,” Vontress said. “I’m a pretty good student, and I’m in a student leadership program at my church and NHS. I also went to a leadership program last summer.”

For Vontress, it was stressful to find out that she had tied Lindsay Lucero with 65 votes each. Vontress remembered being a bit upset because when she asked people to vote, they would say “I’m not feeling well or don’t want to do it today”, and all Vontress could think was “if only they were feeling better.” In response, the next day Vontress changed her campaigning stickers and asked more people to vote for her which, in the end, worked.

“I’m extremely happy that I won,” Vontress said. “Everyone was telling me I could do it.”

Dear fellow students who have ventured onto this dusty website known as therider, If you’re at all curious about who I am and what I do, which I know you’re probably not, continue on. This bio doesn’t happen to be my first go around, but it will sadly be my last. I am as surprised as the rest of you to be up here writing from the position of Assistant Editor, but here I am telling my story. I first came across journalism during my sophomore year, was moved up at semester to newspaper, and am continuing on this adventure until the end of my high school days. Yes, the time has been fun, but I must say it was a long and stressful road. Not only have I driven myself to be the best writer I can, but I’m also in many other activities. My time is consumed by swimming, cross country, track, gymnastics and art activities. Anything I do helps change how or why I do another, so it...ok, I’m just wrapping it up, this is all cliché terribleness and we’re done. It’s a wonderful life. [email protected]

So, I really want my senior year to go with a bang. You know, I want to look back in ten years and be able to say "Wow, high school was so much fun, I wish I could go back." I want to look in my senior yearbook and see all my friends, and show my kids the pictures that I took, and I want those kinds of moments to bring back great memories. So now for the not-so-sappy, semi "exciting" stuff. I'm a photographer, and I plan on being a either a studio portrait photographer or wedding photographer in the near future. My favorite colors are all the shades of green. Haha, fifty shades of green... I'm at my prime in the fall/winter time. I'm addicted to tea and love italian food. I also plan on being a makeup artist. I'm full of goals and dreams, and I hope they all work out! [email protected]
