After months of planning, student council announces the homecoming theme, The Greatest Show. To prepare for homecoming on Oct. 25, members work to create decorations and plan the logistics of the event.
“It can be really stressful,” Pride and Patriotism Committee Chair Emma Beaudine said, “but I have a big passion for encouraging and leading others. So if it’s something that’s really important to me, I don’t want to put it to waste. I would much rather be here helping and seeing a bigger outcome of what homecoming is hopefully going to be.”
Student council holds work days on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3-5 p.m. to create decorations for the school. All members have the opportunity to participate in these workdays to contribute to the decorating efforts.
“We have a lot more people in student council here, which is a really big blessing,” Beaudine said. “So all we have to do is make it come to life.”
Student council creates detailed plans for the theme of each floor, ensuring a creative look throughout the school. For the 2025-26 school year the third floor theme will be acrobatics, the second floor theme will be carnival food and the first floor theme will be carnival animals.
“My favorite part of the process would probably be decorating,” Beaudine said. “I love decorating and making things, I have very high standards.”
Members of the Pride and Patriotism committee lead the planning and decorating for homecoming.
“It’s [exciting] to be creative and be able to think up and dream of ideas,” junior Jordan Hanes said. “We know we have the support of Mr. Williams, and we’re able to do it.”
A major part of planning for homecoming consists of working as a team. Members collaborate every day, especially during homecoming season, spending hours decorating, planning and simply being together.
“We always end up having a lot of fun at the workdays,” Hanes said. “Sometimes we’ll be stressed, sometimes we’ll be doing a lot of work, but then we have our time to listen to music and hang out, so it’s fun.”
Student council spends many hours preparing for homecoming, but in previous years, both members of the student council and the student body felt that the theme fell short.
“Last year, I did not like the theme as much, and it was pretty hard to decorate,” Hanes said. “This year, I think we have something that is easy to be creative with and we can build on it and elaborate on everything.”
The planning and preparation for homecoming by student council allows members to feel that they serve the school.
“Homecoming is such an exciting time for everybody,” Beaudine said. “I remember how I felt when I was a freshman, my first ever homecoming, and I want to make other people feel that way.”
