Legacy NHS students at the 2016 Westside Picnic decorate cookies with a future Legacy Bronco. This year’s Westside Picnic will take place on April 18.

Legacy High School, along with administrators from all of Legacy’s feeder schools, will host the Westside Community Picnic on April 18. The event is open to attendees of Legacy, Linda Jobe Middle School, Donna Shepard Intermediate School and any of the district’s elementary schools who house future Legacy students.

The picnic will be hosted at Legacy from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and will feature a myriad of interactive activities. A variety of food stations, local business vendors, fire trucks and game centers are among the planned attractions. Legacy High School Principal Dr. Shelly Butler anticipates an entertaining atmosphere surrounding this event.

“It’s lots of fun for the whole family,” Dr. Butler said. “It will be a great community event.”

Everybody is a Bronco from kindergarten to high school

Inspired by the need for a rejuvenated sense of community, administrators from Linda Jobe Middle School created the picnic in an effort to educate students about middle school opportunities before they even step inside a classroom. Since its inception, the picnic has become a major spring event for the school, and Jobe Principal Trent Dowd eagerly awaits his first participation in the community gathering.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the whole process,” Mr. Dowd said. “We want to show future students what we are all about.”

Though the picnic originated as a single campus event, it has since expanded to schools of all levels. Multiple fine arts displays and musical performances from intermediate and middle schools will contribute to an inclusive, friendly environment according to Dr. Butler.

“It’s a community event involving all schools,” Dr. Butler said. “Everybody is a Bronco from kindergarten to high school.”
