A new school year for incoming freshmen can reveal itself as a very exciting phase, but for the new teachers and staff members, it can be overwhelming at the same time. This year marks an opportunity to get to know some of the fresh faces here at Legacy.

Special Educator/Interactive Spoken Language Education(SpEd/ISLE) Tiffany Fisher

What school are you coming from?
“Mansfield High School.”

In what ways could you compare Legacy to Mansfield High School?
“They’re both on the bigger side, this campus is a lot bigger as far as distance from one end to the other but they’re both really friendly campuses.’’

Could you say that taking this position at a new school was a good choice?
‘’I think so. We’ll see, the school year is still new, but I’m happy to be here.”

Were you prepared for new students or was it challenging?
‘’For the most part, I was ready for the new students, so it’s not too bad just a different thing if I was being prepared to since I was at the new place.’’

In what ways could you relate to the new incoming freshmen?
‘’Being at a completely different school, and having no earthly idea of where anything is.’’

What were your expectations here?
‘’I really didn’t have any as weird as that sounds because of being at a new campus I was more having just an open-mind. Whatever is going to happen will happen.’’

Special Educator/Interactive Spoken Language Education(SpEd/ISLE) Aide Marina Traylor

What school are you coming from?
“This is my first year at MISD.”

Has been easy for you to accommodate?
“Yeah, everybody is very welcoming.”

What were your expectations for Legacy?
“I didn’t really have a lot of expectations, only because this is a new program to the school and I’m new to being in the program.”

To what extent do you plan on teaching here?
“As far as they need it or as far as they let me. I’m willing to be there for every student not just my own.”

Do you feel that the environment has changed as a former student here at Legacy?
“Oh no not at all the teachers here have always been awesome.”

In what ways could you relate the incoming freshmen?
“I don’t know, I still remember my first day my mom told my brother to walk me around and he said, “it’s in that hall stupid” and he left me, so watching the freshman not knowing where to go, I can relate to that.”

What school are you coming from?
“I’m coming from Arlington Independent School District.”

Why Legacy?
“I have always enjoyed working in the high school setting. My son is a senior here this year and I wanted to be close to him. You know to see what goes on because you don’t always get good information from your kids, so I wanted to know what was going on. I figured this was a good place to work with kids and be close to my son.”

What were your expectations for Legacy?
“My expectations were that I would have a good working environment and good coworkers. I would definitely say they have surpassed anything that I have worked with in the past. There’s excellent leadership and everybody is very friendly.”

In what ways could you as a new staff member relate to the new incoming freshmen?
“This school is big. I’ve gotten lost on the third floor a few times so I think I can relate in that way.”

Were you prepared for a new school?
“Yeah, being an army wife we moved around a lot so we have to adapt to different situations in different environments.”

Counselor Chatrina Forte

What school are you coming from?
“Della Icenhower Intermediate School.”

What were your expectations for Legacy?
“My expectations for Legacy were that I would walk into an environment where people were willing to work with students and make sure that the students had what they needed. This environment would be where we collaborated, talk with each other about was going on, they would help me to learn things that I needed to learn to help the kids be successful.”

Have you been able to accommodate easily?
“I think I’ve accommodated well here. Like I said, everyone is willing to help, give a listening ear or give some advice to help my journey here. I don’t think that it’s been challenging at all. It’s been an environment where I have been able to learn and have been supported.”

In what way could you relate to the freshmen?
“Learning the building, it’s such a larger building compared to what I came from. I can relate that this can be overwhelming because it’s such a large building.

Until what extent do you plan on staying at Legacy?
“I would like to stay at Legacy for the remainder of my counseling years.”
