After Coach Jeff Hulme’s departure, district officials have been on the search for a new head coach. As of Jan. 30, Courtney Allen will take over and lead the program as head football coach and co-campus athletic coordinator.
Coach Allen previously coached at North Crowley High School from 2018-2021 and recently coached at Mesquite Horn High School from 2022-2024.
“This school has a very rich legacy in football. Coach Hulme did a great job,” Coach Allen said. “Now I have the opportunity to come here and build on what they’ve done and take it to another level.”
Coach Allen coached many Division I players at North Crowley including Quentin Gibson and Chris Jimerson Jr. Even more impressive, Coach Allen coached Dallas Cowboys guard and first-round pick Tyler Smith.
“We will be a group of great men. That’s the main thing I’m instilling into the players,” Coach Allen said. “[The players] will be disciplined and represent this program not just on the field, but in the community, during school and even at home.”
Coach Allen introduced himself to all football players during the football period Jan. 30, making sure they know that there will be a shift in culture coming soon. Coach Allen plans on changing the way Legacy football is seen around the area.
“I think our new coach will help our O-Line grow as a whole,” junior Cayden Sargent said. “This will give us much better and more intense reps during practice.”
Knowing Coach Allen’s resume and the players he coached before, players are ready to get to work with hopes to one day play at a higher level.
“Coach Allen seems like the kind of coach to push us to our best,” Sargent said. “I’m more than thrilled to work with him and improve on and off the field.”
With the overall goal of building a strong new culture at Legacy, Coach Allen looks forward to making this program a winning program.
“We are a group of winners, some people may not believe it now,” Coach Allen said. “Soon enough, everybody will recognize that Legacy wins. It’s time to level up.”
